What is hypertension?
Hypertension is a term used to describe high blood pressure. “Normal” blood pressure is defined as systolic and diastolic pressure less than 120 and 80, respectively. Pre-hypertension is the range of blood pressure above normal, but still not high enough to be considered Hypertension Stage 1
What causes hypertension?
Hypertension can be caused by endocrine disease, renal disease, pregnancy, and certain medications. The causes of hypertension are not actually known in approximately 95% of cases out there. It’s called “essential” or “idiopathic” hypertension when the reasoning for the high blood pressure isn’t known.
There are some ways to help control blood pressure with simple lifestyle modifications:
